Program Assistant (SUMMER STUDENT)

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide ongoing training, support and leadership to agency volunteers (both youth and adults)
  • Assist Volunteer Program Manager in implementing new processes with volunteers  
  • Support with delivery of Clothing Programs including Seniors’ Mobile Mall, Teen Shopping Days, and day to day clothing services: Provide front line service to clients  
  • Sort and process donations in accordance to agency procedures and systems
  • Administrative duties, including reception, data entry and word processing
  • Provide agency tours to clients, donors and community professionals when required
  • Support New Circles research initiatives: Conduct interviews (one on one and group) with clients to collect qualitative and quantitative data for each program
  • Work with Manager, Volunteer Programs to develop survey questionnaire and strategy
  • Conduct community research to support New Circles initiatives
  • Produce report for agency with survey results
  • Other duties as assigned

Reports to:   Manager, Volunteer Programs


  • Must be current post-secondary students who will be attending college or university in September 2014
  • Must be under the age of 30 (as required by funding mandate)

  • An interest in social service work and social justice issues
  • An interest in working in a diverse and changing environment
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership skills, including a desire to motivate and support volunteers
  • Excellent writing and research skills with the ability to analyze data
  • Interviewing skills, including ability to express empathy and develop rapport
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and perform lifting of donations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptable working schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Database Entry, Internet research)
