Attached please find an invitation and detailed information of the program/initiative. The invitation is to join an Advisory Group for an international rights-based study to explore how to monitor children’s direct participation in child protection. The study sites are Canada, Brazil, China and South Africa. OPACY and the New Brunswick Child Advocate’s Office are lending a hand to help get the word out about the study. The study consortium - International and Canadian Child Rights Partnership (ICCRP) - includes: Ryerson University, University of Cape Town, Royal Roads University, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Right to Play International, Edinburgh University, Lakehead University and McGill University.

The researchers are looking for 3-5 motivated young people between the ages of 10-25 from the GTA area who will work with the local researcher and provide advice and direction and help design the study. The first phase of the project involves attending monthly or bi-monthly 1-2 hour meetings at Ryerson (in person or via the internet). The Advisory Group members will also interact with their peers in the countries above. Phase I of the study will end by the early summer of 2017. Youth Advisors may wish to continue being involved for further phases of the study. More details about the project and roles and responsibilities of Youth Advisors are contained in the attachment. Interested young people seeking further information about the project or the Advisory Group can contact the Toronto area researcher, Tara Collins, directly at tara.collins@ryerson.ca
